Your Home Remedies Guide

What is "Home remedies"?

Home remedies refer to the type of treatment for a certain disease that involves the use of common items found around the house. Such items could be spices, fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Most home remedies are effective because the things used to treat the ailment have medicinal properties in them. However, there are also other treatment formulas that are merely passed on from one person to another as a form of habit or tradition. These home remedies may be effective for some - But only because it induced the placebo effect in them.

Home remedies are supposed to be applied only to the most common household ailments such as headaches, fevers, colds, minor lacerations, and sprains. A good example of a home remedy practiced in almost all households around the world is chicken soup for respiratory infections.

The use of home remedies can be traced back during the olden times when the study of medicine is not as advanced as it is today. Before, doctors are scanty and mothers are left to themselves to treat a sick child or neighbor. As such, they create a concoction of herbs, leaves, and other edible items found in the kitchen counter with the hope of relieving the pain, discomfort, and pressure that the sick person feels.
